Christianshavn station on the M1
Christianshavn is a Copenhagen Metro station below ground in Christianshavn, served by the M1 and M2. It opened in 2002 and sits in zone 1 of the regional fare system.
Just over 400 years ago, Christian IV built a new neighbourhood. The district was to be called Christianshavn, located between the city centre and Amager and surrounded by water. This is still the case today, with the district’s canals providing the setting for houseboats, tourist boats and cosy cafés. Christianshavn is also home to one of Copenhagen’s biggest tourist attractions, Fristaden Christiania, whose quirky and creative spirit is expressed in the area’s self-built houses and small art workshops.
Close to Christianshavn Station are also two of Copenhagen’s historic churches, Christianskirken and Vor Frelsers Kirke, and if you want to see Christianshavn from above, you can visit Vor Frelser Kirke’s golden church tower, whose last 150 steps run on the outside of the tower itself.
On the M1, Kongens Nytorv is 2 minutes back down the line and Islands Brygge is 2 minutes further on.
Christianshavn is an interchange: the lines meet inside one station, so changing between them means walking across a platform or riding one escalator — there is nothing to tap again and nothing more to pay.
Trains call here 24 hours a day, every day of the year — every two minutes at rush hour, every three during the day and evening, and every 8 to 20 minutes overnight depending on the day of the week.
