Christianshavn station on the M1
Christianshavn is a Copenhagen Metro station below ground in Christianshavn, served by the M1 and M2. It opened in 2002 and sits in zone 1 of the regional fare system.
Christianshavn dates back a little over four centuries, to when Christian IV laid out a new district on the water between Amager and the centre of town. Water still defines it today: houseboats are moored along its canals, tour boats glide past and cafés sit by the quaysides. The neighbourhood is also home to the well-known Freetown Christiania, where self-built homes and small art workshops reflect an offbeat, creative way of life that draws many visitors.
Two historic churches are within easy reach of the station: Christianskirken and Vor Frelsers Kirke (the Church of Our Saviour). The latter has a golden spire that visitors can climb for a view over the district, and the final 150 steps wind around the outside of the tower.
On the M1, Kongens Nytorv is 2 minutes back down the line and Islands Brygge is 2 minutes further on.
Christianshavn is an interchange: the lines meet inside one station, so changing between them means walking across a platform or riding one escalator — there is nothing to tap again and nothing more to pay.
Trains call here 24 hours a day, every day of the year — every two minutes at rush hour, every three during the day and evening, and every 8 to 20 minutes overnight depending on the day of the week.
