Marmorkirken station on the M3
Marmorkirken is a Copenhagen Metro station below ground in Frederiksstaden, served by the M3 and M4. It opened in 2019 and sits in zone 1 of the regional fare system.
The Marmorkirken metro station is not only located next to the beautiful old church – it is also in the centre of one of Copenhagen’s oldest neighbourhoods, where major Copenhagen attractions such as Amalienborg Slotsplads, Langelinie and Kongens Have are within a few minutes’ walk. The area is also home to a number of museums, including the Design Museum Denmark, the David Collection, the Amalienborg Museum and the Medical Museum.
Underground, the walls of the Marmorkirken metro station are clad in sand-coloured limestone panels in a warm, golden colour inspired by the mansions above ground. The sandstone is characterised by containing tiny fossils that are millions of years old – from fossilised sea urchins to octopuses. A special feature of the metro station under the Marmorkirken is the depth of the station. When you stand on the station’s lowest platform, you are 30 metres below ground level.
On the M3, Kongens Nytorv is 1 minute back down the line and Østerport is 2 minutes further on.
Marmorkirken is an interchange: the lines meet inside one station, so changing between them means walking across a platform or riding one escalator — there is nothing to tap again and nothing more to pay.
Trains call here 24 hours a day, every day of the year — every two minutes at rush hour, every three during the day and evening, and every 8 to 20 minutes overnight depending on the day of the week.
