Rådhuspladsen station on the M3
Rådhuspladsen is a Copenhagen Metro station below ground in City Hall Square, served by the M3 and M4. It opened in 2019 and sits in zone 1 of the regional fare system.
The metro brings you straight to Rådhuspladsen, one of the largest and best-known squares in Copenhagen. Copenhagen City Hall stands right beside the station, and this is also where Strøget, the city’s main shopping street, starts its long run of shops. The square is where Danes gather to celebrate big sporting successes and to count down to the New Year, and its character shifts noticeably over the course of a day.
Mornings here are calm and quiet; in the afternoon the visitors are mostly tourists, and after dark the square draws young people out enjoying the city. Down at platform level, the walls are clad in glittering dark glass meant to mirror the colours of urban life above: neon at night, headlights reflected on wet tarmac and illuminated signs on the rooftops. Evening is when the square truly shows itself at its best.
On the M3, København H is about 1 minute back down the line and Gammel Strand is about 1 minute further on.
Rådhuspladsen is an interchange: the lines meet inside one station, so changing between them means walking across a platform or riding one escalator — there is nothing to tap again and nothing more to pay.
Trains call here 24 hours a day, every day of the year — every two minutes at rush hour, every three during the day and evening, and every 8 to 20 minutes overnight depending on the day of the week.
