About the M3 line
Cityringen — the M3, the red line — is the biggest thing to happen to Copenhagen transport in a century. It opened on 29 September 2019 after almost a decade of digging, and it is a true circle: seventeen stations, all underground, joined in a loop with no terminus at all. Trains run continuously in both directions, so you are never more than half a circle from anywhere on it.
The ring stitches together the neighbourhoods the old metro missed: Vesterbro and the Central Station, Frederiksberg, Nørrebro, Østerbro and the inner city. The full circle takes about 28 minutes, and the longest journey on it, København H to Skjolds Plads, takes about 14 minutes. Every station was given its own architectural identity, and several — Marmorkirken, Gammel Strand, Rådhuspladsen — are worth a look in their own right.
You can change to the M1 and M2 at Frederiksberg and Kongens Nytorv, and to the M4 along the shared central tunnel between København H and Østerport. S-trains connect at København H, Østerport and Nørrebro.
